The city of Datong has gained Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development recognition as a demonstration site for renewable energy development, the municipal energy-saving construction administration has reported, making Datong the only Shanxi province city to win the award.

The Datong government has been paying closer attention to the use of solar energy in urban construction work in recent years, and the city has seen the wider application of renewable energy in the field. It now has 20 construction projects in the proposal stage or under construction that have already begun applying renewable energy techniques.

This approval as a renewable energy demonstration site comes in response to a State Council call for energy conservation and emissions reductions and is expected to push the energy-saving process and speed up the use of renewable energy methods in urban construction work.
