Liu Qi meets Mass. Governor Mitt Romney

President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) Liu Qi met with Mitt Romney, visiting Massachusetts Governor of the United State on Sunday.
Mitt Romney served as president and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games in 2002 He was briefed on the preparations for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Liu told the guest that the Chinese government has attached great importance to the Olympics and the Chinese people have shown interest and support for the events. Up to now, all new competition venues have been under construction, the competition schedule has been fixed and the recruitment of volunteers has drawn an enthusiastic reaction from a wide spectrum of people. To facilitate news coverage of foreign journalists in the run-up and during the Games, the State Council on December 1 issued "Regulations on Reporting Activities in China by Foreign Journalists during the Beijing Olympic Games and the Preparatory Period."
Liu Qi, who is also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, spoke highly of the successful Salt Lake Games and expressed willingness to draw experience from the host city and enhance exchange and cooperation with Salt Lake City.
Mitt Romney praised Beijing for its achievements in preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games. He believed that Beijing is capable of staging a high-level Olympics with distinguishing features.
Wang Wei, BOCOG executive vice president and secretary-general was on hand during the meeting.
