Asia's top judokas clash in Ordos as championships get underway

The 2026 Asian Judo Championships opened in Ordos, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on April 16, drawing athletes and officials from across the continent.

A total of 288 athletes from 21 countries and regions are competing, joined by 77 officials, guests, and referees at the four-day event.

On the opening day, competitions were held in four categories: men's 60kg and 66kg, and women's 48kg and 52kg. The fighters showcased strength and technique in fast-paced bouts.

In the finals, Mongolia's JAMSRAN Anudari claimed gold in the women's 48kg category, while compatriot MMYAGMARSUREN Nandin-Erdene took the women's 52kg title. Bahrain's POLTORATSKII Ruslan won gold in the men's 60kg event, and Tajikistan's EMOMALI Nurali secured the men's 66kg title.

China's national team earned three bronze medals on the first day, with Hui Xinran and Zhuang Wenna finishing joint third in the women's 48kg category, and Xue Ziyang taking bronze in the men's 66kg division.

Organized by the Judo Union of Asia, the championships are the highest-level judo competition in Asia. They have been held since 1966. This marks the second time the event has been hosted in China.
