BEIJING -- Lan Tianli, former deputy Party chief of South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and chairman of the regional government, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of discipline and laws, China's top anti-graft agency announced Thursday.

Upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Commission of Supervision (NCS) had conducted an investigation into Lan's case, according to a statement by the CCDI and NCS.

The investigation found that Lan had lost his ideals and convictions and failed to faithfully implement the CPC Central Committee's major decisions and plans, the statement said.

It added that Lan had been uncooperative during the investigation and accused him of disregarding the Party Central Committee's eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct.

Moreover, he was also found to have abused his power to secure benefits in project contracting and personnel promotions for others, while accepting large sums of money and gifts in return.

In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision has been made to expel him from the Party and public office, confiscate his illicit gains and hand over his case for judicial proceedings.
