The inaugural issue of the bilingual journal China Studies, the official publication of the World Conference on China Studies, was officially released on Friday, aiming to foster exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.

Edited by the Institute of China Studies at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the journal, which will be published quarterly in both Chinese and English, also aims to provide a high-level academic platform for scholars from home and abroad to share, accumulate and disseminate research findings in the field of China studies.

China studies serve not only as a crucial pathway for understanding China, but also as a bridge connecting diverse civilizations and enhancing mutual understanding, experts said. In response to the rapid and profound changes in modern China and the urgent global demand for updated knowledge about the country, the field has expanded into a multidisciplinary, multi-centered, and cross-cultural research system encompassing both historical and contemporary, traditional and modern, regional and global perspectives.

The journal's editorial statement invites original contributions from a broad range of disciplines, including history, literature, philosophy, religion, society, politics, economics, law, arts and science and technology. It encourages theoretical innovation, methodological exploration and cross-linguistic collaborations. By adopting a multidisciplinary and multicultural perspective, the journal aims to expand the boundaries of global China studies and provide a deep knowledge foundation for contemporary dialogue among civilizations.

"As China's comprehensive national strength and international influence have continued to rise, China studies have become a prominent field of study in recent years. The wealth of academic achievements in this area has gradually formed a research system characterized by a global perspective and multidisciplinary features," said Shen Guilong, president of the Institute of China Studies.

The second World Conference on China Studies is scheduled to open in Shanghai, promising further opportunities for scholarly exchanges and collaborations.
