A high point of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army, which falls on Aug 1, should be the increasing might of the PLA Navy, which launched its first domestically built destroyer in June and first "homemade" aircraft carrier in April. The destroyer is expected to have cutting-edge air defense, missile defense, anti-ship and anti-submarine missiles when it is commissioned for duty early next year, while the aircraft carrier will lead combat and defense missions as well as non-combat missions such as anti-terrorism and anti-piracy operations.
China has to make greater efforts to integrate military and civilian industries, as it will further boost the economy, strengthen the national defense sector, and mark an important achievement of the comprehensive reforms over the past five years, reiterated President Xi Jinping, who is also the chairman of the Central Military Commission.
At a meeting on Tuesday, the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee emphasized the importance of deepening military reform. And top leader Xi Jinping reiterated the importance of military legislation, and interpretation or annulment of laws and regulations.

A special inspection by the central government from Feb 12 to March 3 found that Qilian Mountain National Nature Reserve in Gansu province had failed to resolve its long-existing pollution problems and environmental degradation despite being ordered to rectify the problems. THE PARENTS OF AN 11-YEAR-OLD BOY, who was killed in a collision with a coach while riding one of Ofo's short-term hire bikes in Shanghai four months ago, are suing the company and the coach driver. They are asking for 8.78 million yuan ($1.32 million) in compensation and have urged Ofo to replace all its bike locks with safer ones. Southern Metropolis Daily commented on Monday:
