Russia has been dominating the rhythmic gymnastics for years, and tonight they had double insurance for this gold in Beijing Games, as in Athens. From the international competitions held over the years, we can see athletes on the podium are always from the former Soviet Union. Russia swept almost all the medals both in individual and team matches, and a few came to the Ukraine.
However, Italy, Israel and other countries are likely to surpass Russia in the team competition over the next few years, but the dominance of Russia in the individual match remains unshakable. For the coming final, it’s expected that the champion would between Russia’s Olga Kapranova and Evgeniya Kanaeva and whoever wins is merely determined by their two’s performance.
By the way, the last Olympics bronze medallist Anna Bessonova of the Ukraine placed third in the preliminary round, and best wishes for her. China’s Li Hongyang didn't reach the final, but she performed her best. If she could experience more, she would be better. The competition will be splendid with the world top-level athletes coming to Beijing. To play with such athletes can enhance the ability of our gymnasts and it's a good opportunity to develop the rhythmic gymnastics in China. The two athletes in the following photos are my favorite. There is so much hard work behind the beauty of the rhythmic gymnasts.
They usually begin training at 5 or 6 years old, and are not qualified to compete till the age of 15. When they are 18, they could qualify to represent their country to the Olympic Games only after they defeat many other athletes from all around the world to get one of the 24 tickets for the Olympics. So applause to every Olympian rhythmic gymnast for they’ve already overcome so much difficulty to show their beauty to the world. It doesn’t matter that much whoever wins the gold medal. Let’s appreciate the rhythmic gymnastics and cheer for every girl!
