Olympics LED screen to reappear during Paralympics ceremony

BEIJING-- A massive, carpet-like LED screen, which displayed a huge scroll during the Olympics opening ceremony, will be used again during the opening for the Paralympics on September 6, according to the Friday edition of the People's Daily.
The 147-meter by 22-meter screen might also be used during the closing ceremony for the Paralympics, the newspaper reported, quoting an unidentified source.
During the Olympics opening ceremony on August 8, a huge scroll was displayed in the center of the National Stadium where performers danced, drew and staged puppet dramas.
"The screen can bear up to two tonnes per square meter, so it's OK for 10,000 people to dance on it," said Lan Xia, president of Hong Kong-based Glux Group, which produced the screen.
The huge screen is actually composed of 15,000 small screens. "After the opening ceremony, the screen had to be removed within two hours. We devoted much effort to making the process as short as possible," he said.
Technicians can actually remove the screen within an hour, he added.
The Paralympics opening ceremony, with about 6,000 performers, will start at 8:00 p.m. on September 6 and last for about 2 hours and 50 minutes.
