New family planning regulation might hurt women

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-06-04 17:42

Wuhan city in Hubei province recently released the draft of a new regulation that will see unmarried women fined if they have a child. This policy might hurt poor people, says an article on Beijing News. Excerpts:

Juveniles, persons who refuse to marry, even mistresses can all possibly give birth to a child while they are not married.

These women are victims, a venerable group that needs care. Wuhan's new policy is too harmful to certain unmarried women who already face huge pressure in life.

The new regulation might not mean to, but in fact it will hurt these women if it comes into effect. Many scholars worry that abortions, abandoned babies and even human trafficking might rise because of the new regulation.

Hopefully, the government could consider the people's difficulties and prevent such tragedies from becoming reality.
