An eight-year-old girl who has caught H5N1 bird flu on April 16 waves to her mother outside of the ward at a local hospital in Suining, southwest China's Sichuan province May 1, 2006. The girl, surnamed Sun, showed symptoms of fever and pneumonia on April 16. According to the hospital, Sun has been lifted out of a critical condition, gradually regaining her appetite and a normal temperature. None of the nearly 150 people who had close contact with her has shown any abnormal symptoms. [Newsphoto]
