Chapter 12 International Exchanges and Cooperation

In 2009, SAIC actively engaged in multilateral and bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the trademark field, strengthened its friendly, cooperative relationships with the WIPO, the International Trademark Association, and other international organizations, as well with the trademark administrations of such countries as the United States and Japan and with the European Union. Meanwhile, SAIC expanded its exchanges and cooperation with other countries and regions or international organizations.

SAIC actively served trademark holders at home and abroad to safeguard the interests ofChina and the enterprises.

1.Active multilateral exchanges and cooperation.

1-1. Exchanges and cooperation with WIPO.

In 2009, CTMO had its representatives attend the WIPO Assembly, the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (SCT), the Working Group meeting on the Development of Lisbon Agreement (Appellations of Origin), the Coordination Committee, Working Group on the Legal Development of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks, the meeting of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property (CDIP), the Symposium Intellectual Property and Public Policy, and the meeting on Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purpose of the Registration of Marks, as well as other meetings at all levels. It followed up and discussed issues related to goods and service in trademark application, trademark information March 30th, SAIC Minister Zhou Bohua met with WIPO Director General Mr. Francis Gurry. technology development, gathering intellectual property resources to improve development, the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks, Geographical Indications, new types of trademarks, and other topics.

On March 30, 2009, WIPO Director General Mr. Francis Gurry visited SAIC and talked with Minister Zhou on cooperation issues.

Vice Minister of SAIC, Wang Dongfeng, met with Mr. Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO. November 23 to 26, 2009, Li Jianchang, Director General of CTMO, attended the 22nd session of the Standing Committee on Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications held in Geneva, Switzerland. During the meeting, Mr. Li met with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry.
