5. Successful hosting international seminar on Geographical Indication and exhibition, enforcing international exchange and cooperation on Geographical Indications

On November 31st and December 1st, 2009, Asia-Pacific Workshop on Geographical Indication, co-hosted by SAIC and WIPO, was held in Chongqing, attracting more than 20 representatives from 14 countries and 180 representatives from China. The workshop, aiming to strengthen international cooperation and exchange in Geographical Indication, to discuss legal system concerning Geographical Indication and agricultural product trademark, exchange experience in registration, application and protection of Geographical Indication, and the experience in applying Geographical Indication to agricultural development.

November 30th to December 1st, SAIC and WIPO held Asia-Pacific Workshop on Geographical Indications in Chongqing.

The workshop helped attendants learn from each other about Geographical Indication and agricultural product trademark and their protection, further realize the importance ofGeographical Indication and agricultural product trademark in economic development and international trade, and improve protection of Geographical Indication and agricultural product trademark in Asia-Pacific region and even the whole world.

Many Chinese news media and websites reported the workshop, again spreading the ideas and contributions of Geographical Indication and agricultural product trademark, and also enhancing the protection awareness of the indication and trademark.

November 30th to December 1st, SAIC and WIPO held Asia-Pacific Workshop on Geographical Indications in Chongqing. SAIC Vice Minister Fu Shuangjian and WIPO Deputy Director General Wang Binying visited the Exhibition on Geographical Indications.

China Geographical Indication and Agricultural Product Trademark Exhibition, held during the workshop period, comprehensively introduced the achievement of China in registration, application, protection of Geographical Indications and trademarks for agricultural products, winning high remarks from the attendants. After the workshop, the exhibition was moved to Beijing, and Minister Zhou Bohua, after visiting it, spoke high of the exhibition and asked to further promote Geographical Indication and agricultural product trademark, especially to make full application of them in agricultural economy.
