Chengdu High-Tech Zone, one of the major State-level high-tech industrial development zones in western China, hopes to establish a service database for enterprises in order to improve its government service.

The database will include detailed company information in various areas. "It's like making an electronic ID card for each one of them," said Feng Yaxi, vice-director of the high-tech zone.

The database helps government service departments better understand the needs of enterprises in a timely manner. It will improve government service efficiency and capacity, according to Feng.

The database will start with newly registered enterprises and gradually include all companies in the zone. "It takes time, however," she said.

Apart from the database for enterprises, Chengdu High-Tech Zone will also build a service database for residents as well, according to the first 2013 document issued by the zone on Jan 8. The document focuses on how to build a first-class government service system for the high-tech zone in Chengdu.

The resident service database will collect information such as employment, social security, education and health care, enabling residents to enjoy quicker and better service.

Chengdu High-Tech Zone has been trying to improve government service ever since its ratification by the State Council in 1991. It conducted nearly seven million service cases in 2012.
