An investment promotion center in the Singapore-Sichuan High-Tech Innovation Park, in Chengdu city, Sichuan province, has officially opened, park officials announced, July 3.

The Singapore-Sichuan High-Tech Innovation Park (SSCIP) is in the Tianfu New Area of Chengdu, on a 10.34-square-kilometer piece of land and is the first high-tech industrial to be jointly developed by Singapore and the Sichuan government.

The overall planning is intended to integrate industry and urban living in hopes of becoming a model of innovation, where industry, the ecology, culture, and humanity co-exist peacefully.

Work on the project began in 2012, and is expected to take about eight years to complete. The parl contains seven multiple-use clusters -- Tianfu Gateway, a High-Tech Area, Business Center, Biomedical Center, R&D showcase, Service Outsourcing and Innovation, and Xinchuan Heartbeat -- each with areas for industrial, commercial and residential purposes.

Priority is given to eight pillar industries -- IT, bio-medicines, service outsourcing, new digital media, precision machinery, environmental technology, finance, and training -- and it is expected to be a landmark in Western China for HQ and research activities, one that combines Sichuan's competitive industrial strengths and Singapore's advanced technology and management practices, one park official said.

So far, four companies have signed agreement to cooperate with Sino-Singapore (Chengdu) Innovation Park Development Ltd, SSCIP's manager, and Liu Xinling, chairwoman of the Sino-Singapore company commented, "We definitely have confidence in attracting capital from all over the world. There are 38 companies that intend to invest in SSCIP."

There is a scale model of the 5,000-square-meter center that gives an overall view of the planning, public facilities, and traffic network for potential investors.

"Since the 12fth world Chinese Entrepreneur Convention will open in Chengdu, this September, our company and its partner, the Chengdu Hi-Tech Investment Group, will take the opportunity to invite more companies to settle there," Liu concluded.
