A number of documentaries have been shown and books published in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, one month before a national memorial day to honor the victims of the Nanjing Massacre.
Grief-Stricken Nanjing, a 30-episode documentary, has been shown since?Nov.23 on the Nanjing channel and two online channels (www.nbs.cn and xwei.tv). In 1995, Iris Chang, a US historian and journalist, decided to write a book about the Nanjing Massacre, in which at least 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers were killed by invading Japanese troops during a six-week period starting in December 1937. Iris Chang, who is credited with increasing awareness of wartime atrocities in Asia with her famous book The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocuast of World War II, was remembered on the 10th anniversary of her death Sunday.
The Rape of Nanking, published in 1997, chronicled the Nanking massacre (1937-38) and the atrocities committed during it by the Imperial Japanese Army during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-45). Read more
