To ensure the event ran smoothly the organizers made thorough preparations.

There were refreshment points every two kilometers after the first five kilometers, with a plentiful supply of bananas and drinks.

Boasting the highest standard of emergency medical systems in China, this year's Wuxi marathon introduced hundreds of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators).

More than 2,800 volunteers were selected to work at the marathon after having received comprehensive training, and more than 3,000 police and security personnel were scattered throughout the route.

In 2015, Wuxi came fourth on the list of China's top marathon destinations. This January, it won the Gold Label Road Race award at the 2015 Marathon Gala-China event. Its next goal is the International Association of Athletics Federations' Road Bronze Label.

The popularity of running is increasing recently, especially around Taihu Lake. Therefore, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai have teamed up with the Chinese Athletic Association for the Tour of Taihu Lake Marathon Series, in order to develop the region into a destination for sports and leisure. The Wuxi International Marathon was the first stop of the series in 2016.
