Obama to announce Afghan troop decision

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama is expected to announce decision on a pending buildup of US troops in Afghanistan "within days", the White House said Tuesday.

"After completing a rigorous final meeting, President Obama has the information he wants and needs to make his decision and he will announce that decision within days," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement.

Meanwhile, US media are reporting that the president will announce the decision with an address to the nation on December 1, likely in prime time.
