There is an online rumor claiming patients who have recovered from the novel coronavirus will suffer chronic side effects, worse than those seen in SARS survivors.
Zhan Qingyuan, head of an expert team for pneumonia control at China-Japan Friendship Hospital, said there should be no chronic side effects for patients with mild symptoms. Those with severe symptoms may experience pulmonary fibrosis, he said.
He said most of the problems will be addressed thanks to the ability of the lung to repair itself, though symptoms may linger for an extended period of time in a tiny minority of patients with extremely severe cases.
