All wild species of the Tulip genus (Tulipa) are under second-class national protection in China. They hold tremendous value in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity.
In a recent interview with Xinjiang Daily, Yang Zongzong, a council member of the Botanic Society of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said most wild tulip varieties in China are native only to Xinjiang, totaling 14 species.
