Updated: 2016-09-21
By Li Xiaoxu ( chinadaily.com.cn )

Lanzhou is the capital city of Gansu province in northwest China. It sits beside the Yellow River, which ensures the juiciness of its many rich fruit crops.

Lanzhou is famous for its various fruits and tourist resources. The Maijishan and Kongtong Mountains are located in the east, Bingling Temple in the west, Labrang Monastery in the south, and Mogao Grottoes in the north.

It has abundant resources such as earth minerals and hydropower. Its hydropower comes from the Liujiaxia, Bapanxia and Yanguoxia hydropower stations.

Live in Lanzhou

One of the leading cities in the development of China's Belt and Road Initiative, Lanzhou was listed among the top 10 happiest provincial capitals in China in 2015, according to a survey conducted by CCTV.

People in Lanzhou enjoy colorful lives flavored by activities such as a local music festival, dance and drama performances and a “color run”.

To build an eco-friendly and comfortable city, the local authorities have made great efforts to protect the environment. The city achieved 250 days of standard air quality readings in 2014, 57 days more than the 193 days achieved in 2013, according to official statistics.

Lanzhou noodles, especially the beef hand-pulled ones, have gained worldwide popularity -- there’s even a Lanzhou noodles restaurant in Bishkek, Kyrgyz.

The city is the transportation and telecommunication center of the region, with many international air routes to counties such as Russia and Nepal.
